Drawing Sonic Characters - Head: Muzzles by Xssys Drawing Sonic Characters - Head: Muzzles by Xssys
Okay, so, first off, I did this to help a good friend of mine: ~SarahTheHedgehog099 as she says she's having trouble with drawing muzzles. :meow:
I hope this can help many other people also who are beginning to understand the concept of drawing Sonic Characters. :D

STEP 1

So basically, you start off the head with a simple circle shape. Easy, right?
If you're using:
Traditional Tools (Paper): You can either sketch out your own circle or perhaps trace it from items.
Paint: You can select the 'Circle Shape' tool and drag it out into a circular shape.
Paint Tool Sai: You can get a reasonable sized circular shape using the 'Pen' tool on a layer. Just press in an area once to make a circle appear (please note this may not work with tablets; just touch pads of laptops/netbooks or the mouse of computers.)
GIMP 2: It's perhaps best to draw your own circle on this, as the circular brushes might be too small.

STEP 2

You then will have to separate the head into thirds.
:bulletred: Bottom Third: This is for the MUZZLES (as seen above)
:bulletred: Middle Third: This is for the shapes of the eyes. Please note that the eyes don't have to reach from the muzzle to the top line of the middle, they can always be a bit smaller than that.
:bulletred: Top Third: This is for the top of the head where ears can be visible (if the character has ears). The ears of the character would start at the bottom line of the top third, and reach just a tad over the top of the head.

STEP 3

You may need to change the size of the thirds for your personal needs.
:bulletred: All equal thirds would be a straight-leveled view of the characters' head. (SEE FRONT VIEW ABOVE)
:bulletred: A bigger bottom third (muzzle area) and smaller top third (ear area) would be a below-level view of the characters' head, showing just underneath the muzzle and not much of the top head. (SEE UPWARD VIEW ABOVE)
:bulletred: A smaller bottom third (muzzle area) and bigger top third (ear area) would be a high-level view of the characters' head, showing just above the top head and not much of the muzzle. (SEE DOWNWARD VIEW ABOVE)

STEP 4

You are now ready to construct your character! :D
:bulletred: Position the nose close to the middle curve of the muzzle.
:bulletred: Most Sonic Characters have their mouths shown on the side of their muzzle. You can either position it to the side or lower underneath the nose.
:bulletred: The eyes are like smaller, squashed ovals. If you have trouble drawing these, you can find some here -> [link] (By *LunarSparkle ) Basically, if you want the character looking down, it'd be down near the edge of the muzzle. If you want them looking up, it would be above the shape of the eyes.

REMEMBER:
:star: It's about perspective! If the head is facing away from front view, make everything else face away; the eyes, the nose, the ears etc.

:star: It's always helpful to add a center line through the middle of the head. This will just help to show where abouts to position things at the center of the head e.g. the nose, frown (if preferred), any jewels or decors that may be placed at the center of your character's head, glasses etc. etc.

:star: Practice makes PERFECT! :dummy:

Good luck, everyone!
